Transitions-Mental Health Association

San Luis Obispo, California

Salary: $100,000 - $110,000 DOE/DOQ

Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA) is seeking a mission-driven Finance Director to oversee the financial functions of the organization. With over 50 programs, TMHA serves over 5,000 people in San Luis Obispo and North Santa Barbara Counties. The next Finance Director will oversee the complex funding for such services (which are 70% publicly funded), through grant management, budget development, forecasting, and strategic planning. They will possess highly technical financial expertise along with strong interpersonal skills that allow for open communication, productive collaboration, and positive relationship building. They will oversee an operating budget of approximately $17.5 million and three direct reports. THE DEPARTMENT/THE JOB

The Director reports to the Executive Director and will oversee the Finance Department, which includes a team of three who assist in overseeing the financial and accounting functions of TMHA. The Department plays an essential role in the financial planning and forecasting, implementation, and management of all finance-related activities of the agency, including accounting, financing, forecasting, grants management, fundraising, capital campaigns, payroll, program budgets, the annual agency budgeting process, job costing, etc. This Director will coordinate and partner with other staff and support other activities such as property acquisition, financial systems, related information technology projects, contract negotiations, budget forecasting, working closely with program managers and always ensuring the organization is compliant with federal, state, and local regulations and laws. The Director will interface with County of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara personnel, part of the contract negotiation team.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Along with understanding the technical nature of this role, the model candidate will be an active listener and communicator and ideally have experience working in and leading finance and accounting work for a community-based, nonprofit organization; preferably in a health and/or social services mission driven organization. This candidate will be open to others’ ideas, effectively explain complex financial concepts in simple terms to non-technical audiences, and be a person who is solutions oriented, flexible, and takes initiative. This Director will thrive in this role through their driven, forward-thinking nature and interest in taking initiative, willingness to support others, develop others, and use their brainstorming skills to develop better processes. They are a true team player, inclusive, ethical, and value others. The Director will be mission driven and understand the nature of the work that TMHA does to support other departments and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business; and 4 years accounting experience with at least 1 year of financial management to include budgeting, forecasting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, cash flow and control; AND
  • 4 years of staff supervision or management experience. OR
  • 2 years of college education; AND
  • 5 years of accounting experience with at least 1 year of financial services management to include budgeting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and cash flow and control; AND
  • 8 years of staff supervision or management experience.
